Rosie Birkett is an award-winning food and cookery writer, food stylist and cookbook author with a passion for communicating the pleasures of delicious food and the fascinating stories behind it. A true believer in the idea that food brings people together and provides much-needed joy as well as sustenance, she is focused on creating seasonal, accessible recipes for home cooks of all abilities, and encouraging a stronger connection between cooks and the food they put on their plates.

After studying English Literature at Leeds University, Rosie embarked on a career in magazine publishing which would eventually lead her to London and to a role at Caterer and Hotelkeeper, where she discovered a fascination for hospitality and cookery, developing her specialism in food writing. Since being freelance, Rosie has contributed articles and recipes to publications including Grazia, BBC Good Food, The Guardian, Observer Food Monthly, The Telegraph, Jamie Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar. While honing her own cooking skills, Rosie worked as an assistant to acclaimed British Vietnamese chef and photographer Uyen Luu on shoots and at her supper clubs in Hackney, and trained at The Gables Cookery school in The Cotswolds, broadening her repertoire to include food styling and cooking for editorial and commercial photoshoots and films.

Rosie has curated and cooked at several sell-out residencies and pop ups across London, including Carousel in Marylebone and J Sheekey Oyster Bar, and has collaborated on dinners and charity fundraisers with chefs including James Lowe, Romy Gill, Maria Elia, Chetna Makan, Zoe Adjonyoh, Paula McIntyre, Olia Hercules, Elly Curshen and Alissa Timoshkina. She is an ongoing supporter of food-focused charities including Magic Breakfast, Action Against Hunger and an is an ambassador for Fairtrade and Cook School.

Books

Rosie has written five books, her critically-acclaimed cookbooks A Lot On Her Plate (2015) and 2019’s The Joyful Home Cook, along with East London Food (2015) and East London Food 2 (2021); plus J’Aime London (co-authored with the chef Alain Ducasse in 2014).



Columns

Rosie has been a monthly recipe columnist for The Sunday Times since 2019, sharing her joyful, seasonal recipes for the home cook. In 2021 she won the prestigious Guild Of Food Writers Award for her recipes in The Sunday Times and BBC Good Food, and the same year she joined the team at Olive magazine as a contributing editor and columnist, penning her ‘At Home With Rosie’ column and sharing her kitchen and home projects along with simple seasonal recipes. Before this she was writing monthly recipes for BBC Good Food since 2015. Rosie has often contributed to the award-winning, bi-monthly Market Life magazine produced by Borough Market, and was also a regular fixture in the Saturday Guardian’s newly relaunched Feast food supplement, where each week she provided a concise, delicious recipe for ‘Lunch on the Go’

Broadcasting and social media

Rosie has appeared regularly on weekend morning food television, cooking and presenting foodie slots on Saturday Kitchen and Sunday Brunch, and has also featured as a guest judge on Masterchef and Great British Menu. She is a multi-platform communicator, having a presence both in print through her regular columns, on television and online, having amassed a significant social media following of over 108k on Instagram and 30k on Twitter.
